Can I write my own partnership agreement?

You can write your own partnership agreement, and in most US states it does not need to be notarized, only signed by the partners. Even a simple written agreement beats the default: without one, your state's partnership law decides profits, authority, and exits for you.

A 50/50 agreement needs special care because equal partners can deadlock. Write a tie-breaker: a designated decider by domain, a neutral third party, or a buyout formula one partner can trigger.

Beyond that, cover contributions, profit splits, roles, what happens when a partner leaves or dies, and how disputes get resolved. Put it in writing while everyone is still friendly. The agreement exists for the year that friendliness gets tested.

This business partnership template walks through every one of those decisions as a plain field.

ContractMaker turns a few plain fields into a clean, ready-to-send document in about 90 seconds. It is a document tool, not legal advice.
